Review of the 2013 Lexus ES
Introduction
Lexus has redesigned the ES 350 for 2013. The five-passenger ES sedan now comes with a powerful yet velvety-smooth V6 engine, a luxurious hi-tech interior and offers a comfortable ride. The all-new 2013 ES 350 is available in 350 and 350h (Hybrid) models.
Exterior Design and Special Features
Signature Lexus spindle grille, a progressive new design and enhanced handling, the ES brings new levels of refinement and quality to the entry luxury segment. NuLuxe seating surfaces developed to help reduce environmental impact, Lexus Premium Sound System features eight-speakers with Automatic Sound Levelizer (ASL), power tilt-and-slide moonroof with one-touch open/close and sliding sunshade, dual-zone automatic climate control and next-generation Lexus Enform system are among its highlights. The standard Lexus Premium Sound System features eight speakers.
Engine
The ES 350 is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine with Dual VVT-i which delivers 268 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 248 lb-ft of peak torque at 4,700. The six-speed sequential-shift automatic Electronically Controlled Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i) provides enhanced driving performance, fuel efficiency and smooth shifts. The ES 350 delivers an EPA estimated fuel economy of 21 mpg in city, 31 mpg on highways and 24 mpg on a combined journey.
Lexus has introduced a hybrid model 350h for the first time in the ES 350 lineup. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine and an electric motor in the ES 300h together generate 200 hp and deliver approximately 40 mpg in city, 39 mpg on highways and 40 mpg on a combined journey.
Both the ES 350 and ES 300h come with a Drive Mode selector. Normal mode provides a blend of performance and efficiency that is suited to everyday driving, while Eco mode favors fuel economy.
Safety
Antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front and rear side airbags, side curtain airbags and front knee airbags are standard. Lexus Safety Connect with automatic collision notification, stolen vehicle location and an emergency assist button has also been included. Parking sensors, a lane-departure warning system and a blind-spot monitor that includes a rear cross-traffic alert system are optional.
