RAM has added the RAM Outdoorsman, a new trim level, to the 2012 RAM 2500 pickup truck lineup. The new trim is highly useful to the hunters, fishermen, campers and boaters with efficient convenience, off-road capability and trailer-towing. The ST, SLT, Laramie and Power Wagon are the other trims available.

The 2012 Dodge RAM 2500 trucks are now standard with Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) and Tire pressure monitoring (TPM) system. Electronic brake controller is standard on SLT, Outdoorsman, Power Wagon and Laramie. Hunter Green Pearl and Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl are two new colors for 2011 which will be carried forward to 2012. There are some new wheel options and interior colors too. The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GCWR) has increased to 22,000 lbs now. A new navigation system is available. A spray-in bed liner is now available. Halogen headlamps; fog lamps; bright rear bumper; body-color upper fascia; bright front bumper; and bold grille highlight the masculine exteriors of the RAM 2500 pickup. The RAM 2500 has a lengthy list of standard and optional equipment which includes 17-inch x 8.0-inch forged aluminum wheels; rear folding seat; floor covering carpet; black vinyl floor covering; passenger assist handle; rear 60/40 split folding seat; rear under seat compartment storage; rear power sliding window; color-keyed instrument panel bezel; 12-volt auxiliary power outlet; 4-spoke steering wheel; power sunroof; remote keyless entry; and more. The Regular Cabs are fitted with an 8-foot long bed, while the Quad Cab comes with a choice of a short 6.3-foot bed and an 8.2-foot-long cargo bed. Mega Cab is a bigger crew cab with a spacious and accommodating cabin with a short bed. The Mega Cabs seat up to six passengers compared to Regular Cab's 3-passenger seating.

The standard engine on the RAM 2500 is a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine, which delivers 383 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 400 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. Also available is a diesel version of the 6.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel engine. The diesel engine is exceptionally powerful and durable, capable of producing 350 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. A 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard. Six-speed automatic and six-speed manual transmissions are also available. The 2012 RAM 2500 can tow up to 17,600 pounds when it is properly equipped.

Safety features on the RAM 2500 include anti-lock 4-wheel disc brakes; height-adjustable front shoulder belts; tire pressure monitor and warning signal; multistage front air bags; and supplemental side curtain air bags. The Safety Sphere package with ParkSense rear park assist system, ParkView rear backup camera, Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path detection system, rain-sensitive wipers and automatic headlamps is available.
