Review of the 2013 GMC Sierra 1500
2013 Sierra 1500
Introduction
The 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 half-ton, full-size pickup truck is based on the basic design platform of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and is available in Regular Cab, Extended Cab, and Crew Cab versions. Gray Green Metallic exterior color, OnStar 9.0 with a one-year service plan that includes Automatic Crash Response and Turn-by-Turn Navigation and enhancements that reduce wind noise are new for this year.
Exterior Design and Special Features
The 2013 Sierra 1500 comes in five trim levels: Work Truck, SL (Crew Cab only), SLE, XFE and SLT. Most V-8 models are rated to tow around 9,000 pounds, but some models get more than 10,000 pounds with an enhanced trailering package. Rearview camera system and two new exterior colors are available. Air conditioning- single-zone manual front climate control, AM/FM stereo with MP3 compatible CD player, seek-and-scan, digital clock, auto-tone control, Radio Data System (RDS), speed-compensated volume and TheftLock, and XM Radio are standard on most models.
Engine
The Sierra 1500's 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.2L V-8 engines offer E85 capability, while the 4.8L and 5.3L engines now feature variable valve timing. The E85 comprises 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline, reduces greenhouse gas and smog-forming emissions, and is domestically produced. A six-speed automatic transmission is added to regular and extended cab models with the 5.3L V-8 (previously it was offered only on crew cab models); and all 5.3L-equipped models feature a standard 3.08 axle ratio that enhances fuel economy.
Safety
Side curtain air bags and seat-mounted side air bags are now standard on all GMC Sierra 1500 models. Air bags, frontal, driver and right-front passenger with Passenger Sensing System, OnStar 1-year of Safe and Sound plan, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (does not apply to spare tire), Daytime Running Lamps with automatic exterior lamp control, dual halogen composite headlamps with automatic exterior lamp control and flash-to-pass feature, and StabiliTrak stability control system with Proactive Roll Avoidance and traction control are standard.
